Step one: pick a voice, not a face

The catalogue lists each character’s voice and favourite topics next to her portrait. Read the voice line first. A conversation with someone whose rhythm matches yours will feel natural in two messages; the opposite takes twenty.

Step two: open with something concrete

“Hello” is a slow start. “I have been staring at the same email for an hour” is a fast one. Characters on Touchie ai respond to specifics, and a specific opening gives the conversation somewhere to go immediately.

Step three: give the scene a place

Adding a location changes the tone of a chat more than any other single trick. The same question asked on a rooftop, a train and a kitchen table produces three different conversations.

Step four: let silences be short, not empty

If you do not know what to write, write that. It is a legitimate message and it reliably produces a question back.

Step five: keep a long thread alive

Long conversations survive on callbacks. Return to a joke from earlier, ask what she thought of the thing you mentioned twenty lines ago, or change the setting entirely and keep the same topic.
